Because
teams are everywhere and they have become the standard way
people work to get things done in organizations. Many teams
simply don’t work in optimal ways, however, because
individuals don’t have the skills they need to work within
them, address and resolve team issues, and help their teams
to achieve their full potential. |

|
Programs for teams typically include the following five steps:
Step 1:
Initiation |
ECA
documents team and organizational goals and strategies,
impediments to successful team performance, and critical success
factors upon which program success and failure will be
determined. ECA conducts a kick-off meeting to introduce the program
and identify overall expectations for the overall program and
attends two regular team meetings to observe team interactions
and assess the ability of team members to engage in effective
teamwork and collaboration. |
Step 2:
Operating Agreement |
ECA works
with team members to develop an effective Team Operating
Agreement -- a set of values-based principals that govern
individuals as well as interpersonal actions and behaviors.
To accomplish this task, ECA facilitates one or two working
sessions with team members to discuss and establish principals and get buy-in
and commitment from each team member. |
Step 3:
Coaching Objectives |
ECA
conducts individual coaching sessions with each team member to
understand his/her job function; discuss individual performance
objectives and related performance standards; review how
individual objectives align with and support team and
organizational objectives; and identify factors that limit the
individual's ability to succeed and contribute to the team's overall
ability to perform. |
Step 4:
Action Plans |
ECA
conducts individual coaching sessions with each team member to
identify barriers to success -- organizational,
interpersonal, procedural, technical, or other impediments --
and develop specific and task-oriented one-, two-, and
three-month objectives that each team member can commit to
actively working toward and achieving within the designated timeframe. |
Step 5:
Support |
ECA
attends team meetings to observe interactions between
participants and assess their ability to communicate effectively
and engage in effective teamwork and collaboration. ECA
also maintains active contact with each team member to provide
feedback that reinforces appropriate skills and behaviors;
identifies trouble spots and barriers to success; and helps each
team member to overcome obstacles in order to achieve his/her
individual performance objectives. |
|
ECA’s approach is based on it’s D.A.R.E to
SucceedTM coaching model – an
approach that supports clients as they Discover
what needs to be accomplished; Act on
what needs to be done; Reinforce
improvement activities; and Evaluate
progress. |
